01) Out of the Crowd ... a Leper!

Matthew 4:23-25; 8:1-4

Just after Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount, He walked back down the hill to find a crowd anticipating Him . . . when, suddenly, a leper appeared!

Surely all the bystanders scattered from this unclean, disfigured outcast who had humbly asked Jesus for healing. With compassion, Jesus reached out and touched the man whom society had deemed untouchable.

Follow Pastor Chuck Swindoll as he brings to life this amazing scene that perfectly portrays the magnetic presence and quiet compassion of Jesus Christ, our loving Savior.

03) How Not to Follow Jesus

Matthew 8:18-27

Not all who wish to follow Jesus truly realize what following Jesus actually entails. So, in a very eye-opening way, Jesus did not receive with open arms all who came to Him.

Jesus discerned their intentions. Some had false conceptions of who He was. Others had selfish motives. In Matthew 8:18–27, we read of such people and how Jesus responded to them.

Join Pastor Chuck Swindoll as he unfolds how we might purify our walk with the Lord who sees all and knows all.

04) Dealing with Demons

Matthew 8:28-32

Demons are neither phony nor funny. Some dismiss or belittle these evil beings that exist in the supernatural world while others obsess over them.

How did Jesus respond to them? How did He think about them then, and how should we as His followers think about and respond to them today?

Pastor Chuck Swindoll addresses these questions in his exposition of Matthew 8:28–34. Tune in for the vital principles of engaging in spiritual warfare because, as a Christian, you’re in a battleground, not a playground.

05) A Soul-Searching Walk Alongside Jesus

Matthew 9:1-13

Often, standing by those who’re doing good are chattering tongues ready to criticize and nitpick . . . even condemn.

We find such faultfinders among the religious elite of Jesus’ day who disparaged Jesus for healing a paralyzed man and for fellowshipping with social misfits.

Join Pastor Chuck Swindoll for a soul-searching walk alongside Jesus, in Matthew 9:1–13, so you can appreciate anew the tender heart of Jesus and avoid a self-exalting false piety.

06) A Nonstop Day of Miracles

08) Sheep among Wolves: What to Expect

Matthew 10:11–31

From the very beginning, Jesus emphasized that following Him is no easy stroll in a park. As the world was hostile toward Him, it will be toward us.

Because we are sheep among wolves, Jesus told us to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves.

In this exposition of Matthew 10:11–31, Pastor Chuck Swindoll gives straight talk about living in a treacherous world. Learn how the presence and power of Christ frees us from fear.

09) A Severe Checklist for Disciples

Matthew 10:32–11:1

In Matthew 10:32–11:1, Jesus masterfully summarized His direction to the disciples with a simple yet severe checklist.

He designed this checklist to help us default to faith in and loyalty to Him in a faithless and feckless world.

Pastor Chuck Swindoll digs deep into the words of King Jesus to help us plant them deep within our hearts and so fortify our resolve to follow Him when the going gets tough.

10) When Disappointment Leads to Doubt

Matthew 11:2–11

Imprisoned and discouraged, John the Baptizer sent for Jesus to inquire if He really was who He said He was. What do we do when Jesus doesn’t meet our expectations?

Thankfully, we have Jesus’ response to John the Baptizer preserved, which is instructive for those who struggle with spiritual doubt in our day.

Pastor Chuck Swindoll carefully examines the subject of doubt through the lens of Matthew 11:2–11 to draw out vital principles that help us address and overcome doubt in our lives.

11) When Jesus Turned Up the Heat

Matthew 11:12–26

In Matthew 11:12–26, Jesus begins to put names and faces on those who were responding to Him with either aggression or passivity.

He warns against the deadly consequences of both responses. As it turns out, both responses run rampant in our own day.

You won’t find any sugar-coating in Pastor Chuck Swindoll’s exposition of this pertinent passage. Hear Jesus’ words of forceful clarity, and guard against the pervasive attitudes of aggression and passivity.

12) Get Some Rest

Matthew 11:27–30

Jesus didn’t delight in those who refused Him. He wanted all to come to Him, to trust Him, to receive new life in Him.

In Matthew 11:27–30, Jesus promises to reveal to us God the Father, And He invites us to place our heavy burdens upon Him, for He is humble and gentle and offers an easy yoke and rest for our souls.

Do you need rest? Join Pastor Chuck Swindoll as he discusses the unique rest that none but Christ can offer us. For none but Christ can offer access to our Father in heaven.

13) Sabbath Lord vs. Religious Nitpickers

Matthew 12:1–15

Do you allow legalists to control you? Are you able to discern between God’s instruction and others’ expectations?

In Matthew 12:1–15, the Pharisees begin to show their true spiritual colors as they nitpick Jesus’ actions.

In this sermon by Pastor Chuck Swindoll, learn the profile of a pharisaic legalist, so you can steer clear of their stifling rules. You were bought by Christ and for Christ, so you might live in the image of Christ with all its freedom.

14) God's Servant or Satan's Pawn?

Matthew 12:15–30

How do you respond when you know that others are working against you? The Pharisees began cruelly conniving to thwart Jesus and His mission. They even claimed Jesus exorcised demons by Satan’s power—how foolish!

Jesus retorted with a passage from Isaiah that explains His identity, and then he used simple logic to refute their assertion. Unfazed, He pressed on in His mission.

Listen to Pastor Chuck Swindoll’s sermon on Matthew 12:15–30 and gain instruction for how we, today, can respond to critics of Christ and the cross.

15) Severe Warnings Everyone Must Remember

Matthew 12:30–37

In Matthew 12:30–37, Jesus gives three stark warnings about spiritual ambivalence, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, and how one’s words and deeds reflect one’s heart.

Authentic followers of Christ do well to reflect on these warnings. Taking a biblical and honest assessment of one’s own heart from time to time sparks new spiritual growth and fresh intimacy with God.

Pastor Chuck Swindoll takes you step by step through these warnings, which we all must remember.

16) Miraculous Signs, Evil Spirits, Startling Statement

Matthew 12:38–50

Even though Jesus had already performed countless healings and exorcisms in numerous villages, the religious authorities asked him for a sign. They still didn’t believe God sent Him.

Jesus refused to offer them a sign and then uncovered the evil intent of their hearts. In doing so, He revealed how His exalted identity compared to Jonah’s and Solomon’s, and then He spoke of the immense importance of hearing and doing God’s Word.

In this sermon on Matthew 12:38–50, Pastor Chuck Swindoll teaches about true spiritual conversion and how to put Christ first in your life.

17) A Story for the Hard of Listening

Matthew 13:1–23

18) A World Full of Wheat and Weeds

Matthew 13:24–30, 36–43

If God is just, why does He permit evil in our world?

That question has plagued humanity as far back as our collective memory takes us. Jesus touched on that deep question with a simple parable in Matthew 13:24–30 and 36–43. While God doesn’t reveal all His mysteries, He does give us a glimpse into His motives and ways.

Pastor Chuck Swindoll examines this parable to help us wrap our heads around that vital question.

19) Get It? Got It? Good!

Matthew 13:44–52

Have you ever asked, “What is the kingdom of heaven like?” If so, Pastor Chuck Swindoll’s exposition of Matthew 13:44–52 is just for you.

Four times, Jesus used different comparisons to teach us what the kingdom of heaven is like.

You won’t find Jesus musing about some lofty and distant place. Rather, Jesus emphasised what happens when the kingdom makes its way into our place, in the here-and-now, on earth.

20) Home, Cynical Home

Matthew 13:53–58

When thinking of Jesus’ remarkable teaching and astonishing miracle-working, one might think the people in His hometown of Nazareth, including His brothers and sisters, would receive Him with joy and praise.

But they didn’t. Filled with resentment, they refused to believe in Him.

Crucial instruction for our day flows from this short passage in Matthew 13:53–58. Pastor Chuck Swindoll places you into the scene to give you a fresh glimpse of Jesus’ nature and what we should anticipate from our hometown and family as we follow Him.
